The unexpectedly mild weather has made
this fall a wonderful season to spend outdoors. But, when the rain
falls, take heart in knowing that there are tons of indoor pursuits
on the Cape and Islands throughout the next several days.
Head to the Cultural Center of Cape Cod
in South Yarmouth tonight to catch the Dan Sullivan Trio in concert,
cafe-style. Sullivan is a talented saxophonist; admission to the
evening is $10 and refreshments are BYOB. On Sunday, the center hosts
a selection of short documentary films by Michael DiLauro.
Also on Sunday, the Wequassett Inn in
Chatham hosts a yummy event to benefit a great cause: the Gingerbread
House Event & Silent Auction. The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and
benefits The Children's Center. Tickets are $50 per person and may be
purchased at The Potted Geranium in West Harwich and Port-o-Call
Gifts & Antiques in Harwichport.
Harwich Junior Theatre presents “The
Minister and Mrs. Satan,” today at 2 p.m. Call 508-432-2002 ext. 4
for tickets. And at the Cape Cod Repertory Theatre in Brewster, catch
“Our Country's Good” between now and December 6; call
508-896-1888 for further information.
For all the fashionistas: Head to Cape
Cinema in Dennis to see "Coco Before Chanel,” which runs
through Thursday, November 19. Visit their Web site or call
508-385-2503 for showtimes. The cinema is an architectural beauty;
make sure to tilt your head skyward and gaze at the incredible mural
of the heavens painted by Rockwell Kent.
It may seem just a tad early to think
about Thanksgiving, but I must tell you of a wonderful tradition to
start with your family: a visit to the Annual Lighting of the
Monument at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum on
Thanksgiving Eve. The illumination of the monument is accompanied by
a variety of family-friendly entertainment. The celebration begins at
5 p.m. Make sure to take a stroll through the museum to see its
incredible exhibits, enjoy steaming cups of apple cider, sing holiday
carols, and watch the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.
Lynne Pleffner is a Chatham resident, a Cape
Cod Life employee, and a member of the Cape Cod Commission. But more
importantly, she's always out and about on the Cape and Islands.
