Hiking, camping, biking, and swimming are just some of the outdoor activities that abound in Nickerson State Park. The 1,900-acre park is a far cry from the beaches and dunes many associate with Cape Cod, but the woods, kettle ponds, trails, and streams offer an alluring change of scenery to both visitors and year-round residents.
At more than 800 acres, Punkhorn Parklands offers some great dirt roads for mountain biking. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History has interactive exhibits on local plants and animals as well as 80 acres of wood, marsh, and shore land for exploration.
A relic of simpler times, the Brewster General Store is a captivating one-stop shopping experience with historical flair. With a whimsical selection of groceries and candy, t-shirts and gifts, books and greeting cards, you can find it all at this 140-year-old store. Pop a quarter in the nickelodeon to hear an old song and warm yourself by the coal stove.
Brewster offers a number of places to go for a dip, all within a few miles of one another. Crosby, Ellis Landing, and Paines Creek Beaches are all off Route 6A and represent just a few of fine places to swim in the area. Check out some sea critters along the Brewster Flats at low tide or marvel at the sunset along Cape Cod Bay.
During late April, daffodils begin springing up all over Brewster, and to celebrate, the town holds Brewster in Bloom. A parade, open house tours, and tasty goodies brighten this annual rite of spring.
