Downtown Hyannis is often considered the commercial hub of the Cape. Main Street features a number of unique restaurants, eclectic shops, and art galleries.

Alberto's Ristorante is one of the best places for fine Italian dining year-round, and the restaurant has an extensive wine list. Come hungry to The Brazilian Grill's rotisserie barbeque of delicious meats. On Osterville's scenic Main Street, find fine cuisine in elegant surroundings at Five Bays Bistro. Enjoy hearty Italian fare year-round at Palio Pizzeriain Hyannis.

For more than 90 years, Puritan Cape Codhas been a Main Street destination for those looking for fine men's and women's attire. For the office, the beach, and even the tennis court, Puritan offers great shopping. If you are looking for fine art, Barnstable's villages have galleries around nearly every corner.

The Cotuit Center for the Arts hosts a wide cross-section of art exhibits, theatre performances, and other art events at their Falmouth Road location. The Schulz Gallery (Osterville), Morrison Glass Gallery (Hyannis), Beech Tree Gallery (Hyannis), and the Cape Cod Art Association (Barnstable) are just a few of the many great places showcasing local and regional art.

Barnstable's villages are home to a number of eclectic and interesting gift shops. Margo's Gift Shop in Osterville has all your sophisticated home furnishing needs. Hyannis' Diamond Perfections is a fine choice if you're looking for a precious bauble for that special someone. For a unique "shopping" experience, go to Barnstable Bat Company in Centerville. The company supplies bats to all levels of the sport, including the Cape Cod Baseball League. For antiques and folk art with a touch of Cape Cod, visit Osterville's Kindreds Antiques & Folk Art.

With an area spanning 60 square miles, there are great beaches in Barnstable. Centerville's Craigville and Long Beaches give great views of the Nantucket Sound, while Lovell's and Hamblin's Ponds in Marstons Mills and Wequaquet Lake in Centerville offer some fine freshwater swimming and boating alternatives.
